Baltic Broadband connected this fabulous event with 2 x 10Gbps leased lines into Liverpool’s Pier Head.
With entertainment from world-renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, local DJ Lauren Lo Sung, and of course the official naming by Queen Anne’s Godparent, including the iconic smashing of a Champagne bottle against the ship.
DJ, Craig Charles kept everyone entertained during his set, while the celebrations were broadcast live throughout the Queen Ann ship in full HD quality using Baltic’s high capacity backbone connections.
We provided low latency Gigabit internet for live streaming, back end communications systems, event control, internet for offices and free WiFi for the thousands of people attending.
In addition to the high capacity 20Gbps of internet service, our system was designed for full resilience, so in the case of a failure , we had diverse links and hardware connected from various internet exchanges (London and Manchester).
This allowed both the crowds to connect as well as people on/off the ship to stay connected/use our network’s data rather than consume roaming charges.
Additionally, we built a custom solution for the connectivity to the ship (for the Live Broadcast of the event to Passengers on board the Queen Anne), with a number of wireless antennas located up the River Mersey so it could stay connected to the live broadcast as it moved up and down the river.
On board was six Satellite’s and an RF link, which worked flawlessly, to receive the live stream from the Broadcast studios setup at the Pier Head.
As we peer with the Satellite operator, we’re able to keep the latency low with minimal hops and therefore a small, if any amount of dropped video frames throughout the whole day, resulting in a very reliable, interference-free and consistent live broadcast.
