Cutting Costs with your Internet Provider

1) Figure out what your business needs. The first thing you need to figure out is what you business is currently using.  A lot of providers offer tools to see this through your online account.  If you don’t have one or can’t find one, simply know that, unless your company frequently uploads/downloads large files, or has employees on online applications often, you likely won’t ever need more than 10 Mbps. If you do find yourself, and your employees, frequently using online applications or downloading and uploading, you’ll want at least a 150 Mbps speed. You’ll also need to keep in mind your users.  Is it just your employees or are customers also offered free wi-fi?  Remember everyone that will have access to your internet and plan accordingly.

2) Look for adjustments.

The second thing you need to look for is adjustments.  For instance, perhaps you don’t need high-speed internet for your employees but do for customers.  You could save money buy purchasing a lower-speed service for customers while getting a second connection for employees only. It’s not just plans you need to look out for but also company rules.  Employees could be downloading large files for home-use or even playing games using your very own internet.  Make sure you have a set of rules and guidelines for employees and perhaps even website-blockers that will block time-wasters.

3) Browse for new/different providers.

The next important step in getting the most bang for your buck is to look into other internet service providers.  A lot of the time, people stick with a provider simply because it’s “easy”, but in reality, you could be paying much more for a slower or outdated system.  Do some research, browse around, and look for exactly what you need for your business. It’s also important to look specifically for providers that service your area.  Like Baltic Broadband with Liverpool, we specialise in offering the best and most expansive system here. You also need to look into your own service provider to see if they’ve got a lower speed that works better with your business needs.

4) Look for reviews and deal.

Finally, and equally important, look online at reviews and deals.  Reviews make the world go ’round because without them, no matter what a company promises, they could just have unstable connections and faulty equipment. Deals, on the other hand, will help you pay less.  Often times they’ll have in the contract that your first year is cheaper and that can be a huge bonus, just make sure you’re not paying more than their competitors after that first year.]]>
