The Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a game-changer, and it is disrupting every industry sector .It is a global net of objects connected to the Internet that have the ability to interact and exchange data among themselves without human intervention.

There are billions of devices in homes, factories, oil wells, hospitals, cars, and thousands of other places that can be used for a wide range of uses, for example:

  • Industrial IoT applications for predictive quality and maintenance and to remotely monitor operations
  • Connected home applications for home automation, home security and monitoring, and home networking
  • Commercial applications for traffic monitoring, public safety, and health monitoring

We predict that by 2020 more than half of new businesses will incorporate some element of the Internet of Things technology, as the IoT uses previously considered impracticable will become increasingly viable.

The Free to Use Internet of Things Network

Baltic Broadband in partnership with Internet of Things Limited (IOTLTD) and the Liverpool Internet Exchange have together, since 2017, been building the largest LoRaWAN network in the Liverpool City Region that operates over 50 gateways that spans an estimated 724 km²

As a LoRaWAN Network Operator, we’ve connected our public gateways to the free to use Things Network which is all about enabling low power Devices to connect to an open-source, decentralised Network to exchange data with Applications. These gateways are also connected to our high capacity Internet fibre backbone that connects the region together, resulting in a low latency, highly available and resilient service.

Things Network Features

Full BB Enabled Building Integration

Baltic install multiple IOT gateways deep inside all of it's Baltic Enabled Buildings, helping to enhance services to occupying tenants by providing 100% coverage throughout

Super Low Latency

Enjoy Ultra-low latency and ping times from/to application networks

Deep Network Coverage

Our mix of indoor & outdoor gateways provide wider and deeper network coverage that penetrates deep inside of the regions buildings

Strong coverage over large areas

Connects devices up to 30 miles apart in rural areas and penetrates dense urban or deep indoor environments and even underground or deep within urban infrastructure

Features end-to-end AES128 encryption, mutual authentication, integrity protection, and confidentiality

Low Power

Requires minimal energy, with prolonged battery lifetime of up to 10 years, minimizing battery replacement costs

Offers device interoperability and global availability of LoRaWAN networks for speedy deployment of IoT applications anywhere

Enables GPS-free tracking applications, offering unique low power benefits untouched by other technologies

Maintains communication with devices in motion without strain on power consumption

High Capacity

Supports millions of messages per base station, meeting the needs of public network operators serving large markets

Low Cost

Reduces infrastructure investment, battery replacement expense, and ultimately operating expenses

Direct Connections to Cloud Services

Fully integrated and directly connected into IOT Cloud services such as IFTT and AWS IOT so you can build IoT solutions for virtually any use case across a wide range of devices

Private Internet of Things Network

While our free open and public network is ideal for a wide range of applications, more and more organisations are considering the deployment of their own private, secure and monitored IOT network, that’s just for them.

Baltic’s network assets can be used to effectively “build your own” IOT network from the ground up, creating a secure, integrated dedicated network that is built to your requirements.

We also offer a carrier grade LoRaWAN back end allowing you to connect thousands of gateways and millions of devices on your own secure and fully accessible platform while taking advantage of the large coverage footprint that Baltic’s network provides.
