Frequently Asked Questions

How is it 100% uptime Guaranteed?

We provide a written service level agreement that details compensation if we fail. Using this, we guarantee 100% uptime, that’s 24/7 around the clock, 365 days a day.

Is Bulletproof available with a monthly contract?

Currently, Baltic Bulletproof is only available with 12 month contracts and above.

Can Bulletproof be provided anywhere in the UK?

Yes it can, however every Bulletproof product is custom designed around both the customer and what digital infrastructure is available in the area.  In some locations in the UK we cannot provide our Fixed Wireless Access service as part of the solution, as such, this may be substituted using other technologies such as Satellite , FTTP, Free Space Optics or Cellular.

Does my IP address change if one of the connections goes down?

No, any block of IP addressing remains the same.  From a technical point of view, when using Bulletproof, both connections are used together simultaneously with your internet traffic being sent down both connections at the same time, in a process called High Availability.  Our network uses the first data to arrive and passes that onto to be routed, resulting in the fastest and lowest latency connection possible.

What’s the purpose of having two routers provided with Bulletproof?

In simple terms, if one router fails, the other router will take over without any impact to your business.  If a failure occurs, it “phones home” to Baltic for its rescue.

By having each independent internet connection having its own router, and then having a “heartbeat cable” between them so they “talk” to each other, we’ll remove a potential single point of failure on the hardware side. 

How does it compare against other Leased Lines from other providers?

Most other leased line providers offer the typical 99.95% uptime guarantee, which translates to the possibility of your internet service being down for 21 minutes each month, or 4 hours a year, that is, before you can claim compensation.  

Many businesses cannot justify the losses incurred by losing their digital connectivity, in fact many businesses operations would be paralysed with such a regular event, especially if it happened during their busiest time.

Bulletproof not only guarantees 100% up time but compensation is immediately payable (It’s backed by £10m worth of liability insurance). More importantly though is getting reconnected (if the worst happens) with our free Connection Recovery service.

Why use Wireless and Fibre together and not say two Fibre leased lines?

Both Fixed Wireless Access and Fibre are great technologies that on their own offer fast and reliable internet, however each one has pros and cons:

Wireless is great as it’s not affected by fibre breaks, thefts, it doesn’t suffer from exchange blackouts, it has better latency (due to it being point to point) and it’s not shared in underground ducting with other networks that could impact its performance.

Fibre is better than wireless for speeds >10Gbps and may already have been deployed in your building that is ready for instant connection.

Combine these products together into a single connection then you have a formidable mix for super resilience and reliability!

Note: Having two fibre connections (one as a backup) doesn’t help either as both connections would travel in the same ducting and street assets and enter your building at the same point, resulting in multiple single points of failure.

I get the 100% uptime and that it’s got a battery backup, how else could it fail?

We’ve tried to imagine all of the things that could go wrong with digital connectivity.  Bulletproof brings in two independent high grade leased-lines, one by fixed wireless access, the other as fibre.  We feed them from different internet exchanges hundreds of miles apart.  We supply two routers so customers have no single point of failure on the hardware level which are backed up by two UPS’s that are rated with a 12 hour uptime duration.

That said, things outside everyone’s control can still go wrong. The customer can suffer from local power failures on their own equipment, have their own hardware failure or even external factors such as routing problems across the internet generally, although rare, such events usually impacts thousands of people across the globe.

How is the monitoring done and will I be notified of a problem with my Bulletproof?

Our 24 hour network operations team, (stationed at either end of Liverpool City Centre) continually monitors both of your connections, routers, UPS’s, latency and throughput.

If we notice a problem, we’ll immediately open an investigation and when we detect a risk to your business, we’ll email, text or call your named contacts to let them know.  Depending on the severity of the issue, we’ll also communicate a plan of action so that you are kept informed all of the way through our investigation and any resolution.

Under the rare instance of a total outage, our teams will immediately dispatch our Connection Recovery team to your business to set up a temporary connection if required.
